Bills on Police and Defense Spheres Debated

On December 11, at the extraordinary sitting the RA NA Standing Committee on Defence and Security moderated by Andranik Kocharyan debated in the first reading the draft law on Making Addenda and Amendment to the Law on Police.

As the Deputy Head of Police Tigran Yesayan has assured, the goal is the prevention and disclosure of torture, inhuman or humiliating possible cases.

In his speech Armen Khachatryan underlined that after the Velvet revolution the cases of tortures had essentially decreased in the police.

The package of draft laws on making Addenda to the RA Law on the Status of Military Units and Military Institutions was debated in the first reading.

According to the RA Deputy Minister of Defense Gabriel Balayan, the Military Institutions of Organizing Sport or Leisure of the RA Ministry of Defense will be created with the amendments being proposed by the decision of the Government.

The co-speaker MP Kristine Poghosyan highlighted the adoption of the package of draft laws and called on her colleagues to vote for it.

As a result of debate, the Committee members endorsed the legislative initiatives.

The draft law on Making Amendments and Addenda to the RA Law the Disciplinary Code of Rules of the RA Armed Forces was debated in the second reading and also endorsed. After the first reading there were no recommendations on the draft law.
